TCL has announced that its 2025 QD-Mini LED TVs in the Precise Dimming Series will support Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, a new audio feature from Dolby Laboratories designed to improve flexibility in speaker placement. The supported models include the QM8K, QM7K, and QM6K, all of which are scheduled for release in the coming months.

Alongside the updated TVs, TCL will introduce the Z100 smart panoramic sound speaker, a wireless speaker developed to work with FlexConnect-enabled TVs. TCL confirmed that users will be able to pair up to four Z100 speakers with a single TV, using them in combination with the TV’s internal speakers to build a room-wide Dolby Atmos soundstage.

FlexConnect does not require fixed speaker positions or traditional surround sound setup constraints. Instead, the system automatically adjusts to the layout of the room and the position of each speaker. Dolby has stated that the technology is designed to accommodate a range of environments without needing symmetrical placement, specific distances, or extensive cabling.

The Z100 speaker was first launched in China at a retail price of 1,499 yuan ($206). TCL has not yet confirmed US pricing, but it stated that the speaker will be released in Grey, Teal, and Beige finishes. Availability in the United States is expected to begin in summer 2025, when the new TVs also begin shipping.

According to Dolby, FlexConnect identifies the number and position of connected speakers, then configures the Dolby Atmos output accordingly. This enables a consistent sound experience, whether users place speakers centrally, asymmetrically, or in smaller rooms where wall-mounted systems are not practical.

TCL has confirmed that the feature is part of a broader 2025 product lineup. All of TCL’s upcoming 4K TVs will support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, and the company’s entire sound bar range is also Dolby Atmos-compatible. The addition of FlexConnect to the Precise Dimming Series aligns with TCL’s ongoing collaboration with Dolby, which has been active across multiple product generations.

John Couling, Dolby’s Senior Vice President of Entertainment, said that the rollout of FlexConnect with TCL’s Mini LED models represents a step forward in adaptable audio design. He noted that the system removes the need to position speakers in exact locations while still achieving optimized Atmos playback.

In related news, TCL has launched the QM8K QD-Mini LED TV featuring its new CryStGlow WHVA panel and an ultra-thin ZeroBorder design, while Xiaomi’s latest S TV Series has adopted TCL CSOT’s low-reflection Mini LED panels, designed to minimize glare and improve visibility in well-lit rooms, further expanding the reach of TCL’s advanced display technologies across the TV market.
